When we hit particularly difficult times in our lives, it can seem like absolutely nothing is going right.
If you’re feeling stuck in life, it is often hard to get out of the rut. Worse yet, the deeper we fall into our slumps, the harder it is to get out. When it feels like we’re not benefiting from any big victories, it becomes quite easy to fall into a perpetually negative mindset.
It is important to recognise the small victories in our day-to-day lives and thrive off that energy. By recognising the small victories that we have every day, it is much easier to overcome that feeling of being ‘stuck? in life.
How can you harness the energy from these small victories?
Start by Recognising Things that Are Going Right
It can be so easy to only focus on the things that are going wrong in your life. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed at work or underappreciated at home. Or maybe you feel hopeless about your love life. Whatever is bringing you down, it is crucial to not allow these issues to become chronic.
Being wary of your mood and actively trying to be more positive can make a huge difference. Express gratitude towards your spouse or your children. Attempt to feel grateful that you have a job instead of viewing it as a nuisance.
You are allowed to have complaints about your life. You are allowed to recognise your personal hardships. However, it is also up to you to not allow them to consume your entire life. This begins by recognising what is going right and not dwelling on the negatives.
Communication Is Key
Often, things that are going wrong in our lives tend to involve other people. Issues at work can be a huge drain on our energy. Relationship problems can make it seem like everything in life is going wrong.
The best way to overcome issues with others is through communication. It is not uncommon to dislike confrontation and conflict. Nonetheless, if an issue in your life with someone is so severe that it’s draining your energy, a serious conversation needs to happen.
If you have a conflict with someone in your life, initiate a conversation with them as soon as possible. Try to find common ground with a difficult co-worker or a compromise with your spouse. You will not only feel much better to have faced the conflict head-on, but hopefully, the resolution will make your day-to-day life easier.
Go Out of Your Way to Do Things You Enjoy
To get the most out of our lives, it is important to do things that we enjoy. This may seem obvious, but when we have daily responsibilities, it can be easy to put our own happiness on the back burner.
If you have a sport you enjoy doing, make it a point to do it at least once a week. If you enjoy having a little alone time, make it a point to tell your friends, family, or roommate to just give you a half-hour a day to simply unwind alone.
Allow yourself to enjoy your hobbies. Splurge on a latte every now and then, instead of making coffee at home. Simply, pleasures can remind us that sometimes we can find happiness in the smallest of things. Embrace these tiny pleasures, treat yourself, and make decisions that are good for you solely.
By doing this, you will find yourself feeling more energized and enthusiastic about life. Before you know it, this feeling of being ‘stuck? will pass and you will find yourself in a better, healthier mindset about your life.
